What is the Brightspace App Finder
The Brightspace App Finder is the best way to discover and manage third-party solutions including app, add-ons, services and content that work with Brightspace.
Users can find apps by keyword search, browsing app categories or viewing apps by segment (for example, K-12, Higher Ed, or Enterprise) all from within the Brightspace platform.
App Finder is also where multiple partnership tracks come together as the central place for all third party apps, whether they are built using Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), APIs or Brightspace data sets.
OpenChannel worked with D2L to support the industry specific LTI standard and provide a truly integrated user experience. Using the built in LTI integration, administrators are able to take advantage of App Finder within their Brightspace Learning Environment. This allows them to quickly launch App Finder to find solutions and easily access, manage, and promote integrations within their institution.
Administrators can also “whitelist” solutions that have been purchased and approved for use at their institution. When users log in to App Finder through Brightspace, those solutions will be featured in a prominent “My Apps” section, encouraging faculty and instructors to use them.
Administrator and instructor feedback was an important part of making App Finder successful and users can provide feedback about specific apps and add-ons, and send solution requests directly to their Brightspace administrators.
Quality assurance was also critical and all App Finder solutions are fully validated by D2L before going live, ensuring only the highest quality apps, add-ons and integrations for the Brightspace platform.
Why the Brightspace App Finder Matters
In an industry that can struggle with adoption of new technologies, D2L and OpenChannel focused on ensuring a strict validation process, advanced searching and leveraging the LTI standard to empower school administrators directly from within Brightspace.
D2L partners with leading organizations to improve learning through data and deliver a personalized experience regardless of geography or ability. What matters is the end learner experience they are seeing real success with App Finder:
“We’ve never seen anything quite like Brightspace App Finder. There are other online catalogues out there but none of them allow schools to promote solutions directly to instructors like App Finder does. Now, our instructors will know exactly which add-ons are available for them to use.”
– Sol Chu, Manager of Learning Management Systems at University of Manitoba
